Tulane 92, Portland St. 64

NEW ORLEANS (AP) _ Sterling Davis scored 17 points and had nine rebounds to lead Tulane to a 92-64 victory over Portland State Tuesday night.

Portland State took an early 3-0 lead, but Tulane (2-1) scored 21 of the game’s next 24 points to put the game away.

The Green Wave led 48-27 at halftime and by as many as 34 points on three occasions in the second half.

Tulane starting point guard Derrick Moore injured his knee nine seconds into the game and did not return. The extent of his injury was not clear, team spokesman Lenny Vangilder said. He will be re-examined on Wednesday, Vangilder said.

Davis, making his first collegiate start, led five Tulane players in double figures. Jerald Honeycutt and Chris Cameron scored 15 points each, Correy Childs had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Dylan Osean scored 10 in a reserve role.

Derek Nesland led the Vikings (0-2) with 16 points and Mike Vanderhoff added 11.

Tulane shot 50 percent from the field, including 61.5 percent in the second half, while holding Portland State to 32.1 percent shooting. The Green Wave also out-rebounded Portland State, 50-29.
