U.S. Teacher Arrested in Mother-in-Law’s Stabbing
TOKYO (AP) _ An American university instructor has been arrested in the stabbing of his Japanese mother-in-law.
Hodge L. Blassing is charged with attempted murder in Monday’s attack, police said today.
Blassing allegedly stabbed Chieko Baba at her home with a kitchen knife when she refused to let him see her daughter, Blassing’s estranged wife. The mother-in-law remains hospitalized with a stomach wound.
Blassing teaches English at Hachinohe University, 360 miles northeast of Tokyo. The stabbing happened in a nearby town.
A spokesman for the school said Blassing, 43, was from Colorado, but his hometown was not available.
