LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) _ Bene Erit gained the early lead and then withstood a late charge by Comstock Lode to post a 1 1/2-length victory in the $55,640 Vodika Collins Purse for 3-year-olds and up Thursday at Churchill Downs.

Winning for the first time in five starts this year, Bene Erit, with Pat Day aboard, covered 1 1-16 miles on the turf in 1:41 2-5 and returned $6.80, $2.80 and $2.20. Comstock Lode paid $2.60 and $2.20, while Gentleman Beau, another 6 1/2 lengths back, paid $2.40.

Bene Erit, owned by Stonerside Limited, earned $37,050 to boost his career total to $150,906. The 4-year-old son of Bering has won four of 12 career turf starts.
