Lackawanna County Prison Inmate’s Death Probed
SCRANTON — A 27-year-old inmate at the Lackawanna County Prison died Friday in the emergency department at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Coroner Tim Rowland said.
The inmate, whose name is being withheld pending the notification of his family, had been found unresponsive in his cell about 3:30 p.m.
District Attorney Mark Powell said the death will be thoroughly investigated but declined to say more because the probe is ongoing.
The coroner said Scranton police and the district attorney’s office are investigating the man’s death. An autopsy will be scheduled.
Scranton Police Chief Carl Graziano said the case is being headed by county detectives. A message left for Warden Tim Betti on Saturday morning was not immediately returned.
