Dutch club FC Twente docked 3 points for financial problems

April 10, 2015

AMSTERDAM (AP) — The Dutch football association has docked former league champion FC Twente three points for the second time this year for failing to meet targets set for its financial recovery.

The points deduction Friday dropped Twente one position to 11th in the top-flight Eredivisie. The club was initially docked three points in early March.

Under Royal Dutch Football Association rules, Twente can have points deducted one more time for failing to meet financial recovery targets and if it still fails to meet the targets the club risks losing its professional license.

Twente official Gerald van den Belt says the club is paying the price for an “overambitious” plan submitted to the Dutch association in 2014. The club recently submitted a revised plan.
