January 5, 2019

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A Little Rock teacher has been put on paid administrative leave after being accused of calling her students monkeys on a Facebook post.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that the teacher at Watson Elementary School allegedly wrote on the post that the “monkeys to my zoo came back today.” Classes at the school resumed on Thursday.

In the post, the unidentified teacher also allegedly wrote that “I’m tired! It’s difficult to train monkeys again.”

In a statement, the Little Rock School District said the employee was put on paid leave “pending the outcome of a thorough investigation.”

Pamela Smith, a spokeswoman for the district, confirmed the post prompted the district to take action.

Smith said she couldn’t release additional information about the investigation.
