Four in running for consultant post with Ansonia-Derby school regionalization committee
DERBY-Four consultants are in the running for the post with the Ansonia-Derby school regionalization committee.
Jim Gildea, a co-chairman with the committee and head of Derby’s Board of Education, said the committee will meet tonight to formulate questions for the interview process.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Derby Middle School cafeteria on Chatfield Drive. The public is invited and there will be a public session. However discussion of the questions and the interview process will take place in executive session.
Gildea said the actual interviewing will take place Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Derby Middle School cafeteria.
The committee is looking for a consultant who has experience in developing and performing evaluations like crafting a single school district and has a professional staff that can handle the workload.
They would have to create a five-year educational and budget plan which projects enrollment, staffing needs, transportation and special education requirements.
The consultant would also assist the committee in determining the pros and cons of regionalization, which grades are to be included, the buildings to be used and the creation of a regional school board, as well as negotiate union contracts.
The committee is working with a $168,000 state grant.
