SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) _ Tonya Baucom scored a career-high 32 points and Melody Howard added 28 Wednesday night as Southwest Missouri State beat Oklahoma State 86-71 in the first round of the NCAA Midwest Regional.

The Lady Bears (22-8) play Maryland, the No. 2 seed, on Saturday at College Park.

Southwest Missouri State made 11 of its first 12 shots and 60 percent in the first half as it took a 47-23 lead. The Cowgirls (23-9) fell behind 64-35 with 14:40 left, then closed to 70-66 with 3:46 remaining.

The Lady Bears survived a seven-minute stretch without a field goal. Tina Robbins’ layup and two free throws pushed the lead back to 83-68 with 59 seconds left.

Robbins scored 12 points and Secelia Winkfield added 10 for the Lady Bears. Freshman Stacy Coffey scored 20 points for Oklahoma State.
