Jail inmate in Tennessee dies in custody at hospital
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities say a jail inmate in Tennessee died while in custody at a hospital.
The Chattanooga Times Free-Press reports 29-year-old Devonte Allison died Friday morning after being booked into the Hamilton County Jail on Dec. 16. He was charged with a variety of drug-related offenses.
A statement says Allison began having severe seizures caused by a pre-existing medical condition on Christmas Eve. He was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. The statement says hospital staff told Allison’s family his medical condition and prognosis. The Hamilton County Corrections Division staff let Allison’s family see him before his death.
The Hamilton County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death.
