Mayor Samaras Recovering from Gallbladder Surgery
A Sun Staff Report
LOWELL -- Mayor William Samaras had his gallbladder removed at Massachusetts General Hospital Wednesday, and was back at home Thursday resting comfortably.
Samaras, 76, was admitted Wednesday morning, had the surgery, and spent the night in the hospital. He returned home Thursday at about 1 p.m.
“I feel good,” said Samaras. “But my doctor told me to lay low for a few days,” Samaras said, further explaining that’s why he could not attend Thursday’s City Council meeting.
Tuesday’s late afternoon snowstorm forced the postponement of the meeting to Thursday. A week after the Lowell High School Building Committee unanimously approved the submission of the Lowell High School’s schematic design to the state, the City Council will be asked to authorize the submission to the Massachusetts School Building Authority. The vote is the next step in order to move the high school project forward.
