Lynn man faces charges in scalding of 2 children

June 25, 2014

LYNN, Mass. (AP) — A Lynn man baby-sitting two toddlers severely scalded by hot bathtub water has pleaded not guilty to child endangerment charges.

Twenty-one-year-old Charles Collins-Robinson was arraigned Wednesday in Lynn District Court. His bail was set at $3,000.

Authorities say Collins-Robinson, a neighbor, was taking care of the 18-month-old and 3-year-old boys June 18 when they got burned. Officials say the younger boy suffered burns over 50 percent of its body, and the older boy had burns over 80 percent of his body. They were flown to a Boston hospital for treatment.

A prosecutor said Collins-Robinson first said he left the children to use the bathroom in his own apartment, then told police he fell asleep after turning on their bathwater.

Defense attorney Lance Sobelman said his client made a “horrible” mistake and asked that he be released.
