Firefighters find themselves in possible ‘sting’
NORFOLK — Nobody was injured as firefighters moved a swarm of bees after a tree branch fell on a house on Monday night.
Capt. Lannce Grothe of the Norfolk Fire Division said firefighters were called at 8:44 p.m. to 918 S. Fourth St. for a tree branch that fell on a house and was full of bees.
First arriving units saw a large branch that had fallen onto the house, causing moderate damage to the roof and porch. There were bees flying around the front porch area and attached to the large tree branch, Grothe said.
It took about four firefighters and two rigs about 30 minutes to control the bees and another 30 minutes to make sure the bees were gone.
The property is estimated to be worth $97,000 and sustained $5,000 in damage to the structure, Grothe said.
No firefighters or others were injured during the incident.
