July 4, 2003

BOSTON (AP) _ Defender Heather Aldama scored her first career goal in the 66th minute Thursday night to lift the Boston Breakers into a 1-1 tie with the Washington Freedom.

The draw pushed Boston (6-4-4) into a first-place tie with Atlanta, while Washington (5-4-3) extended its winless streak to five games.

The Freedom took a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute on a goal by Lindsay Stoecker.

Aldama tied it just two minutes later when she broke free of the Washington defense at midfield and launched a shot from 35 yards that caught Freedom keeper Siri Mullinix off guard.

The game drew a season-high crowd of 8,105 to Nickerson Field.
