Goslings fifth as girls golf invite hosts

August 12, 2018

Watertown’s girls golf teams kicked off the season by hosting the Watertown Girls Golf Invitational on Thursday at the Watertown Country Club.

The Watertown A team shot 382 and finished fifth overall.

Micah Yaeggi (97), Nia Fredrich (94), Hannah Thompson (100), Andrea Tietz (91) and Evelyn Marchant (106) competed for the Watertown A team.

“For two days of practice, I was very pleased with our score total,” Watertown girls golf coach Mike Wietor said. “This is one of our better 18 hole team scores in the past three years. Great consistency from Andrea Tietz (46-45-91) and Nia Fredrich (46-48-94). Looking forward to see what they can do the rest of the season.

“Micah Yaeggi got off to a rough start (51) on the front but played much better on the back nine (46). I expect Micah is going to be consistently in the mid 40’s throughout the season.

“Hannah Thompson played well on the front nine (47) but struggled off the tee on the back nine (53). Evelyn Marchant playing in only her second 18 hole varsity meet and scored 21 shots lower than her score from last year. I think this is the beginning of some good golf from Evelyn.”

Watertown’s B team shot 472 and finished 13th overall.

Sammy Suski (107), Rachael Sprenger (112). Lauren Harshbarger (113), Savannah Szlanski (140) and Noelle Seamandel (141).

“All of these girls are relatively new to competitive golf and especially varsity competitions and this was the first 18 hole meet for most of these girls,” Wietor said.

“Sammy Suski played career rounds (55-52-107) and this was with a 10. She played very steady otherwise. Exciting things to come for Sammy.

Rachael Sprenger shot 52 on the front and I think got a little excited and finished with 60 on the back. Very happy for Rachael. Lauren Harshbarger played well but struggled on 5-6 holes which hurt her overall score.

“Noelle and Savannah first 18 hole medal play match was a struggle. Both are very new to golf but they stuck it out and gave it their best, I feel confident that they both will improve as the season goes on. They both have a great practice attitude.”
