Nelda L. Garrett, 90, of Kankakee, went home to be with our savior on April 7, 2018, from her home, with family at her side.
Cremation rites have been accorded at her request. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, at the Salvation Army, 148 N. Harrison Ave., Kankakee. Major Kevin VanZee will officiate.
Nelda was born on Aug. 16, 1927, in Papineau, the daughter of William and Ida Ponton Lade. She had been employed by General Foods, Harbor House and the Salvation Army, where she also was a Christmas volunteer. Nelda was a die-hard Cubs fan, and she enjoyed watching TV and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her son, Michael Garrett, of Kankakee (ex-wife, Mary E.), and her daughter, Barbara Enstad, of Kankakee; her brother, Joseph Lade; her grandchildren, Melissa, Amanda, Shannon, Patrick James and Jessica; along with seven great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a son, Patrick Garrett; and her brothers, Stanley, Delmar, Vernon, Glendon, Archie, Cecil, Lloyd, Herb and William Lade.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
