Incumbent Camille Furgiuele holds Aiken County Council District 2 seat

November 9, 2018

Republican incumbent Camille Furgiuele defeated Democratic challenger Debra Larke in the race for Aiken County Council District 2 in the election Monday night.

With 84 precincts reporting, Furgiuele received 7,017 votes, ahead of Larke’s 3,131 votes.

“At this point I’m very grateful to all of the people in district two,” Furgiuele said. Furgiuele said it has been an honor and distinction to serve them, and she is looking forward to another four years.

Camille Furgiuele, the Republican incumbent in the race, has been on County Council since 2015. Furgiuele represents District 2 in the county, which encompasses New Ellenton and the Savannah River Site.

Furgiuele championed the Whiskey Road Corridor Study and project, which would improve the stormwater drainage and traffic along Whiskey Road.

In a biography for an Aiken Standard political forum, Furgiuele said her top three focuses for the next term are to continue the Whiskey Road Corridor project and seek out funding sources; promote Capital Projects Sales Tax IV; and help make county employee salaries competitive and create a “smaller but better paid” workforce.
