The Kankakee County employment report continues to be a “good news” document from state and national agencies.
Preliminary data released Thursday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Illinois Department of Employment Security show that Kankakee County gained 2,400 jobs when comparing June 2018 employment figures versus June 2017 numbers.
According to the report, Kankakee County has 48,800 employed workers versus 46,400 from June 2017.
Kankakee County had a June unemployment rate of 4.9 percent. The rate was one-tenth of a percent lower than June 2017 when it came in at an even 5 percent.
Of the 14 tracked metropolitan areas in Illinois, Kankakee County was one of six to experience falling unemployment figures.
When comparing May 2018 to June 2018, Kankakee County saw an increase of 500 jobs. In May, county employment figures showed there were 48,300 jobs here.
Overall, Illinois’ June jobless rate fell from 5.1 percent to 4.5 percent when comparing June 2018 to June 2017 as the state employment grew by 61,700 jobs to a total of 6.18 million.
