NEW YORK (AP) _ Stock prices started lower in early trading on Wall Street on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 60 points. Decliners outnumbered advancers by about six-to-five on the New York Stock Exchange.

The Nasdaq Composite Index was down nine points and the Standard-and-Poor’s 500 Stock Index lost six points.

The market was starting Tuesday’s session with some slippage after solid gains in each of the past two sessions.

The Dow rose a total of 480 points over the past two sessions, edging to its highest level since last July.

Overseas markets have been losing a little ground to profit-taking today, setting the stage for Tuesday’s early action on Wall Street.

The retail sector is worth keeping an eye on Tuesday, with several key players releasing quarterly numbers, including Kohl’s, Costco and Staples.
