MIAMI (AP) — The U.S. Senate has confirmed two women as new U.S. attorneys to oversee federal cases in districts covering much of the state of Florida.

On a voice vote Tuesday night, the Senate confirmed Ariana Fajardo Orshan to be top prosecutor in the Southern District and Maria Chapa Lopez for the Middle District.

Fajardo Orshan was appointed as a Miami-Dade circuit judge in 2012 by Gov. Rick Scott, most recently handling family matters. Before that, she was in private practice and was a Miami-Dade prosecutor. The Southern District runs from Vero Beach to Key West.

Chapa Lopez has worked as a federal prosecutor, a U.S. Embassy attache in Mexico City and was a lieutenant colonel in the Army's Judge Advocate General Corps. The Middle District stretches from Jacksonville to Naples.
