Duquesne 74, Western Kentucky 64
PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Kevin Price scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half to spark Duquesne to a 74-64 victory over Western Kentucky on Monday night for coach Scott Edgar’s 100th career win.
Edgar is 100-80 but 21-40 at Duquesne. He coached at Murray State before joining Duquesne for the 1995-96 season. The Dukes are 3-4 this season.
Western Kentucky (2-3) wrapped up a stretch of three games in six nights. The Hilltoppers’ fatigue may have been reflected in Duquesne’s 28-17 edge in rebounds during the second half.
Duquesne overcame a nine-point deficit to win its second consecutive game. In the Dukes’ last game, they came back from a 14-point gap to beat Radford.
Price opened the second half by missing four free throws, a continuation of a bad first half that saw him score just four points while making two of seven shots with three rebounds. He made seven of 12 shots in the second half and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Duquesne fell behind 50-41 with 13:54 left in the first half when Monty Latimer hit a three-point shot. Duquesne responded with 12 unanswered points that included a pair of three-pointers by Shawn Tann.
Maurice Strong scored for Western Kentucky but Price came back with six consecutive points.
Latimer, a native of nearby McKees Rocks, Pa., led Western Kentucky with 21 points. Joe Harney had 14 points and Steven Bides scored 13.
Aaron Lovelace and Nick Bosnic each scored 12 for the Dukes while Mike James and Tann had 11.
