WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. (AP) _ Pittsburgh Steelers president Dan Rooney escaped injury Wednesday night when the small airplane he was piloting made an emergency belly landing at Allegheny County Airport.

Rooney, 70, was flying back from Steelers camp in Latrobe, Pa., about 30 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. He approached the runway around 8:45 p.m. and his landing gear didn't deploy, said JoAnn Jenny of the Allegheny County Airport Authority.

Rooney walked away from the wreckage unharmed.

Rooney, the eldest son of Steelers founder Art Rooney Sr., was named president of the team in 1975 and inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000.
