Seersucker hosting free Kentucky Derby viewing party
Grab the fancy hats, dress to impress and watch America’s most famous horse race while sipping on some cocktails made with spirits distilled just a few feet away from the bar.
The Seersucker Distillery is hosting its second annual Kentucky Derby party on its Southeast Side grounds at 8501 Cover Road from 2 to 7 p.m. May 4.
Seersucker bar staff will be mixing up a lineup of cocktails themed to event, including the famed mint julep that is associated with all Derby festivities at Churchill Downs. Other cocktails that will be available include the Seabiscuit, Southside Rickey and Church Tea, among others.
Guests also can get their hands on Seersucker’s Southern Style Grapefruit gin, which made its debut in January during the San Antonio Cocktail Conference.
Bring the kids. Bring the dogs. The event is free (drinks not included) and open to the public, and the race will be broadcast live on a large outdoor screen. The Fajita Rita’s and Grouchy Mama’s food trucks will be on site, lawn games will be provided and there will be a horse on the property for photo opportunities.
Awards will be given to best dressed couple, best dressed individual and best Derby hat.
