Americans want Trump, Democrats to end border wall stalemate: Poll
The majority of Americans want to see party leaders agree to a compromise on border wall funding to end the shutdown, according to a new poll released Wednesday.
The CBS poll found that most Americans overall want to see President Trump or Democrats give up their stances about wall funding. Roughly 66 percent would like to see the president sign a bill without funds, but 52 percent say Democrats should agree to fund it.
A majority of Americans don’t see the wall being worth such a long shutdown, according to the data.
However, when it comes down to party lines, neither base wants to see party leaders give up.
Sixty-five percent of Republicans want the president to hold out for wall funding, while nearly 70 percent of Democrats want to see their representatives continue to block any deal.
As the shutdown drags on, the Senate is set to vote on two potential bills to end the stalemate Thursday.
