1 Dead, Another In Custody In Monroe County Shooting
PARADISE TWP. — One person is dead and a man is in custody after a shooting in a Monroe County municipal building, police said.
Troopers have not released either the name of the victim or the name of the suspected gunman, but said the homicide investigation is ongoing.
In a statement, state police confirmed that they responded to the Paradise Twp. municipal building at 8:20 a.m. for reports of “shots fired” inside the building at 5912 Paradise Valley Road.
State troopers and municipal officers took a man into custody without incident. They also found someone dead in the building.
Monroe County Coroner Thomas A. Yanac Jr., has been called to the scene along with the deputy coroner.
Trooper Anthony Petroski, a spokesman for the state police in Monroe County, tweeted that the “incident is contained.”
Police said there is no threat to the public or the surrounding areas.
Paradise Township is about 20 miles north of Ross Township, where a gunman opened fire at a Board of Supervisors’ meeting in 2013, killing three.
