California scientists get $25 million to create brain atlas

SAN DIEGO (AP) — California scientists are getting $25 million to create a brain atlas.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the National Institutes of Health are funding a program it identify and catalog all the different types of cells in the mammalian brain and what they do.

Researchers will work with mice but say the effort could help in the study of human brains as well.

Salk University in San Diego is leading the project, with participation from researchers at USC and the University of California, San Diego.
