Indian Elections Won’t Be Delayed
NEW DELHI, India (AP) _ General elections will be held as scheduled in September despite the armed conflict with Pakistan at the border, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee said Wednesday.
``Elections will not be delayed,″ the prime minister said in response to questions from reporters after a function at his residence.
Elections must be held by mid-October, but the Election Commission has said it hopes to complete the balloting process by September. More than 500 million people are registered to vote.
