Germans Dominate Luge World Cup
KOENIGSSEE, Germany (AP) _ Steffen Skel and Steffen Woeller won the men’s doubles as Germans dominated the Luge World Cup races on their home course.
Patrik Leitner and Alexander Resch finished second in the doubles as Sylke Otto led a German sweep in the women’s singles for the third time in four World Cup races this season.
Skel and Woeller won in a combined time for two heats of 1 minute, 31.592 seconds. Americans Mark Grimmette and Brian Martin broke up an all-German medal showing by overcoming injury to finish third.
Grimmette was treated for an arm injury after the first heat, one reason the defending World Cup champions had just the 13th best time in the second. They finished in a combined 1:32.130, behind Leitner and Resch at 1:31.736.
``Mark overcame the injury well. Winning medal was quite a feat considering the lack of strength in his right arm,″ said U.S. coach Dan Smith.
