Beer calendar: Pinstripes beer dinner, new releases from Saucy Brew Works and Platform, more

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland Beer Week is coming, new releases are due from Saucy Brew Works and Platform Beer Co., several beer dinners are planned, and many other events are scheduled in Greater Cleveland. We update our beer calendar weekly. Have an item to submit? Deadline is Thursday; email me.

OCTOBER

October: Yard House will celebrate Oktoberfest with a selection of ’fest beers: Sam Adams Octoberfest, Weihenstephan Festbier, Ayinger Oktoberfest, Paulaner Oktoberfest Wiesn and Goose Island Oktoberfest. Each of the featured breweries will provide a limited-edition stein. Guests can order the featured beer of the week in a souvenir stein for $10 on top of the price of a half-yard. One stein will be offered per week through Sunday, Oct. 28. It’s at 160 Union St., Crocker Park, Westlake.

Monday, Oct. 8: Great Lakes Brewing Co.’s Giving Mondays are held on the second Monday of each month. A dollar from every beer sold will be donated to local non-profits. Today’s beneficiary: Domestic Violence & Child Advocacy Center. Great Lakes is at 2516 Market Ave., Cleveland.

Tuesday, Oct. 9: Hoppin’ Frog Brewery will hold Tower Tuesday 3-9 p.m. The folks at the brewery will be blending beers with unique ingredients to concoct interesting flavor combinations. It’s at 1680 E. Waterloo Road, Akron.

Tuesday, Oct. 9: Platform Beer Co.’s Charitable Tuesday beneficiary is Cleveland-based Shoes and Clothes for Kids at 3 p.m. A dollar sold of every Platform beer or cider will be donated. Platform is at 4125 Lorain Ave., Cleveland.

Wednesday, Oct. 10: The Wine Spot’s Growler Discount Day offers 20 percent off fills. It’s at 2271 Lee Road, Cleveland Heights.

Wednesday, Oct. 10: Hoppin’ Frog Brewery will hold pint night / meet the brewers. Pints and barrel-aged 1/2 pints are $5 3-7 p.m. Meet the brewers is 5-7 p.m. It’s at 1680 E. Waterloo Road, Akron.

Thursday, Oct. 11: Pinstripes will partner with Great Lakes Brewing Co. for a four-course beer-pairing dinner at 7 p.m. Cost is $60. (Here is what Pinstripes is about; here are details on tickets). Pinstripes is at 111 Park Ave., in the Pinecrest development in Orange Village. Pairings:

• Braised pork belly crostini with spiced pumpkin.

Beer: Oktoberfest, German Märzen.

• Twisted dragon salad with dragon fruit, walnuts, berries.

Beer: Dortmunder Gold, Lager

• Fiorino with roasted elk, handmade ravioli, quail egg, porcini mushrooms.

Beer: Commodore Perry India Pale Ale.

• White chocolate bread pudding with berries.

Beer: Edmund Fitzgerald Porter.

Thursday, Oct. 11: Ruth’s Tastemaker Dinner Featuring Sibling Revelry is at 6:30 p.m. Beers from the Westlake brewery will be featured at the dinner. (You can try other Sibling Revelry beers not part of the dinner at 5:30 p.m.) Beer-dinner pairings include Swing State Dry Hopped Pale Ale, Red, Ohio Native Festbier and Lavender Wit. Dinner menu and price are in the works. Ruth’s Chris is at 200 Public Square, Cleveland.

Thursday, Oct. 11: Hoppin’ Frog Brewery will hold Throwback Thursday 3-9 p.m. Rare bottles will be 20 percent off for on-premise consumption only. It’s at 1680 E. Waterloo Road, Akron.

Friday, Oct. 12: Thirsty Dog Brewing Co. is tapping 12 Dogs of Christmas, its Christmas ale. It’s at 3 p.m. at 1075 Old River Road in Cleveland’s Flats East Bank, with $1 from each pint going to Friends of Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter 5-6 p.m. and photos with Santa 4-7 p.m. It’s also being tapped at 587 Grant St., Akron, at 12:25 p.m. with proceeds supporting One of a Kind pet rescue.

Friday, Oct. 12: Cleveland Beer Week kicks off.

Friday, Oct. 12: Saucy Brew Works will release Three Hos at 11 a.m. The Amber ale has a hint of cinnamon spice. It’s at 2885 Detroit Ave., Cleveland.

Friday, Oct. 12: The Eastern Great Lakes Brewery Collectibles show will be held. The Lake Erie chapter of the Brewery Collectibles Club of America is one of three chapters hosting the show. This is the first day. Breweriana (cans, signs, openers, trays, etc.) of all kind will be on display for swap and sale. Includes indoor mini-golf, raffle, live entertainment, more. Saturday, Oct. 13: Platform Beer Co. will release Holiday Donut Cookie, the brewery’s new holiday ale, brewed with vanilla, cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. It’s billed as part cookie, part doughnut. It’s 7 percent alcohol with 24 International Bittering Units. Doors open at 10 a.m. at 4125 Lorain Ave. and 3506 Vega Ave. in Cleveland.

Tuesday, Oct. 16: Great Lakes Brewing Co. will hold a five-course Brewmaster’s Dinner: Neighborly Edition! at 6:30 p.m. It will highlight offerings from area breweries: Brick and Barrel, Bookhouse, Forest City and Hansa. Tuesday, Oct. 16: Lockport Brewery is holding its annual mug-club members private party 5-9 p.m. The club is full, but you can inquire about the waiting list. Openings will be announced in December. Lockport is at 10891 OH-212, Bolivar.

Tuesday, Oct. 16: Tremont Taphouse will team with Lagunitas Brewing Co. for Yappy Hour. A dollar will be donated to Kaleidoscope K9s rescue for every beer sold, and an extra $.25 will be kicked in if you buy a Lagunitas or Butcher and The Brewer beer from 6 to 10 p.m. It’s at 2572 Scranton Road, Cleveland.

Wednesday, Oct. 17: The Wine Spot will hold a vertical tasting of Bell’s Expedition Stout 6-9 p.m. Vertical tastings are different vintages of the same varietal or style. For this, the 2015 through 2018 Stouts will be served. It’s at 2271 Lee Road, Cleveland Heights.

Wednesday, Oct. 17: Bookhouse Brewing will hold Tastings with Taylor, a bartender who will guide a sampler of five of the new Ohio City brewery’s offerings. It’s at 7 p.m. at 1526 W. 25th St.

Wednesday, Oct. 17: Market Garden Brewery will hold a Collaboration Beer Dinner with Jackie O’s and The Black Pig at 6 p.m. in the beer garden. Cost is $60. Seating is limited. It’s at 1948 W. Market St., Cleveland.

Saturday, Oct. 20: Sibling Revelry Brewery will hold Rocktoberfest 2-6 p.m. The Angels on the Avenue fundraiser will support St. Augustine Health Ministries resident outing fund. The brewery makes a special beer for the event. Bomber bottles of Rocktoberfest Brown Ale will cost $10. Kick-off party is at 2 p.m. Event includes a blessing of the bottles, ribbon cutting and raffles. The Sloppy Joe Band will play 2-6 p.m. For details call 440-930-0542. Saturday, Oct. 20: Platform Beer Co. will hold the second annual All Ohio Tap Takeover at 10 a.m. featuring more than 20 drafts from breweries all over the state. Saturday, Oct. 20: Brewzilla, the grand-finale tasting for Cleveland Beer Week, will be at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland.

The 2.5-hour tour includes stops at three breweries located in former breweries (Bookhouse, Forest City and Platform production) and a pint at each one. Cost is $45 ($15, non-drinker).
