Arkansas man jailed after being accused of son’s death
PRAIRIE GROVE, Ark. (AP) — A northwest Arkansas man has been arrested after being accused by police of killing his two-week-old son.
Mark Weldon Lewis remained jailed Friday after being charged with first degree murder.
Prairie Grove police say the infant was found on a living room couch in Lewis’ home on Thursday. The child displayed signs of decomposition and rigor mortis.
Authorities say a possible injury to the infant’s skull was noted by the Washington County coroner.
Police say the child’s mother was in the hospital due to complications during childbirth but left after not hearing from the 40-year-old Lewis. She found the infant and called 911.
Police say Lewis told a detective that he became frustrated taking care of the child and punched his head.
Jail records didn’t list an attorney for Lewis.
