Man Shot Three Times in Lowell
LOWELL -- A man suffered three gunshot wounds to the abdomen during an incident in the area of Merrimack Street in the Acre neighborhood Tuesday night.
The condition of the victim is not immediately available, according to Lowell police Capt. Paul Laferriere. He added there is no information on any suspected shooters at this time.
The shooting took place in the area of 694 Merrimack St., in front of Hei Elvis Convenience store, at around 7 p.m. A pile of bloody rags remained on the sidewalk in front of the store after the victim was rushed from the scene by medical crews.
A police investigation focused on the alleyway next to the convenience store.
According to emergency radio broadcasts, the victim is believed to be around 30 years old.
Police tape blocked Merrimack Street from Austin Street to Cabot Street. Several people gathered near the tape as police investigated the scene.
One woman, who lives nearby and wished to remain anonymous, said she heard three gunshots ring out. She looked out her window to see a man running down the street.
Another woman, who also wished to remain anonymous, said she heard the gunshots, and assumed they were fireworks.
“I looked out the window and saw the police and thought, ‘now I know something is going on,’” she said.
The shooting victim was supposed to be transported to a Boston hospital by MedFlight, but fog prevented the helicopter from taking off, according to Laferriere.
