PHOTOS: Charity Presents Adaptive Bikes To Local Children
Children’s charity Variety, in close partnership with Luzerne Intermediate Unit 18 and various organized labor groups, has expanded its ‘My Bike’ program and presented customized adaptive bikes to several Luzerne and Wyoming county children with disabilities during LIU’s field day Thursday at Spartan Stadium in Kingston. Variety’s ‘My Bike’ program provides Rifton adaptive bikes to eligible children, many of whom who have never been able to ride a typical bicycle due to the challenges they face. Launched in November 2012, the program has demonstrated that when the mobility needs of children with disabilities are prioritized it is possible to meet something so fundamental to childhood, as ensuring that all children can have a bike – regardless of their disability.
