Nuggets 102, Suns 87
DENVER (AP) _ Bryant Stith scored a season-high 27 points and the Denver Nuggets snapped the Phoenix Suns’ four-game winning streak with a 102-87 victory Friday night.
With the win, the Nuggets (38-39) claimed sole possession of the eighth and final Western Confernce playoff spot with five games to play because Sacremento (37-40) lost to league-leading San Antonio 98-88.
The Suns (55-23) fell 2 1/2 games behind San Antonio (57-20) in the race for the best record in the Western Conference.
Trailing 78-66 after three periods, Phoenix made a run as Kevin Johnson scored 15 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter. He hit a shot to pull the Suns within 80-75 with just over eight minutes remaining.
However, Phoenix could come no closer as the Nuggets parlayed a 10-0 run down the stretch to seal the win.
