Nona Nelson

FREMONT — Services for Nona L. Nelson, 80, Fremont, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. The Rev. Walter Nolte will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Frances Catholic Cemetery in Randolph.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with a 7 p.m. rosary. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the church.

She died Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, at her home.

Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

1937-2018

She was born Dec. 22, 1937, in Royal to Cecil and Edith (Bruner) Sovereign. Nona spent her childhood in Royal and then moved to Grand Island, where she was a 1955 graduate of Grand Island High School.

Nona married Timothy Nelson on Dec. 29, 1955, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. Timothy preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 2006. They resided in Kearney, Pierce, Battle Creek and Randolph before locating in Fremont in 2008. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters.

She is survived by her sons, Richard (Toni) Nelson of Asheboro, N.C., John (Miriam ) Nelson of Wausa and Robert “Bob” (Joleen) Nelson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; her daughters, Regina Wood of Fremont, Kate(Tom) Reeker of Bellevue and Grace (Jerry) Goldfuss of Verdigre; her daughters-in-law, Marilu Nelson of Omaha and Michele Nelson of Madison; a brother, Clifford (Elaine) Sovereign of Kearney; a sister, Mary Lou Eley of Lincoln; 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack Nelson of Hastings, Bob (Barb) Nelson of Omaha, Dennis (Lois) Nelson of Creston, Iowa, Mary Jane (Bryan) Bachkora of Hayes, Kan., Joanne (Lyle) Scripture of Grand Island, Rose Callahan of Grand Island, Pat (Jim) Kasperak of Grand Island and Diane Nelson of Hastings; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nona was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse; her sons, Timothy Nelson and Patrick Nelson; a brother, Gordon Sovereign; and a son-in-law, Harlan Asmus.
