Old Tax Forms Put To Good Use With AM-Floods, Bjt
MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) _ As water lapped at the edges of state government Wednesday, workers used everything in sight to protect buildings - including old tax forms.
State Buildings Commissioner John Zampieri said boxes of 1989 tax forms, along with sand, were used to sandbag the Pavilion Building, the main office of state government.
Water from the ice-jammed Winooski River swept through downtown Montpelier Wednesday, reaching up to 7 feet deep in some parts.
The old state income tax forms helped, but water still poured into the basements of some buildings. Pumps were put into action, especially at the state Historical Society, which kept its historical records in the basement.
