ATHENS, Greece (AP) _ Nikos Mahlas scored a pair of goals Wednesday night as Greece routed Saudi Arabia 5-1 in an exhibition game between World Cup teams.
Mahlas, who plays for OFI Crete, scored in the 10th minute off a pass from Stratos Apostolakis, who plays for Panathinaikos. Mahlas beat goalkeeper Hussein Sadik again with just seconds remaining in the half.
Alexis Alexandris, who also plays for OFI Crete, scored on a header two minutes into the second half off a cross from Vasillis Tsartas of AEK Athens.
Samir Al Jaber converted a penalty kick 12 minutes later, pulling Saudi Arabia to 3-1.
Tsartas set up Christos Costis’ goal in the 74th minute. Costis assisted on Fanis Tounziaris’s goal in the final minute.
Greece plays Argentina, Bulgaria and Nigeria in the World Cup. Saudi Arabia plays Belgium, Morocco and the Netherlands.
