February 17, 2019

Want a faster trip through the airport?

Rochester International Airport will host a series of enrollment events for TSA PreCheck, Feb. 25 to March 1 at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Rochester, and March 4-8 at the airport.

TSA PreCheck, a program of the Transportation Security Administration, is an expedited security screening program for passengers at more than 200 U.S. airports, including Rochester International Airport.

Participants who have been accepted do not need to remove their shoes, light outerwear or belts; their laptops and 3-1-1 liquids also do not have to be removed for special screening. More than 7 million passengers are in the program. In January, 94 percent of participants had wait times of five minutes or less.

The application process takes about 10 minutes. Pre-enroll ahead of time online, at www.identogo.com/precheck. Choose “Start Application Now” then “New enrollment” and fill out steps 1 through 4. Once you arrive at step 4, type in your location “Rochester, MN ” and click the icon. Then choose your location. Select the event and choose Next, at the bottom of the screen and you can select an appointment time (the first available shows, but you can use the drop down to choose a different date and/or time).

Important: To complete the application process, you will need to bring proof of identity and U.S. citizen documentation (such as a U.S. passport or a birth certificate and a driver’s license). If you have a valid U.S. passport, that is all you need for ID.

The application process is completed on-site, where fingerprints are taken for a background check and an $85 application fee is collected for five years of service. The fee can be paid by credit card, money order, company check, or certified/cashier’s check. Cash and personal checks are not accepted.

Once approved, individuals will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) making them eligible to utilize TSA PreCheck lanes on a consistent basis at security checkpoints at airports nationwide. Children 12 and under are permitted to use the TSA PreCheck lane when traveling with a program-eligible parent or guardian.
