A contest as sweet as pie: Beatrice Health & Rehab hosts pie bake off
It was a classic, American apple pie that stole the show at the Beatrice Health & Rehab’s first annual Pie Bake Off contest on Wednesday.
Local judges sampled over a dozen pies, from coconut to chocolate and apple pecan. But it was center staff member Michelle Lottman’s apple pie that topped them all in the end.
Judges at the contest included Beatrice Mayor Stan Wirth, Beatrice Community Hospital CEO Richard Haraldson, Seth Ray from the Beatrice Country Club and Daily Sun news editor Scott Koperski.
The pies were baked by staff, therapy residents in short-term rehab and residents in activities, according to Michelle Mayfield of Beatrice Health & Rehab.
The first-place winner took home a Thanksgiving. Afterward, the pies were served to residents to enjoy.
