Strong Storm Topples Trees, Causes Flooding, Other Damage
SCRANTON — Strong storms continue to hit Northeast Pennsylvania tonight, with wind toppling trees and tornado warnings sending residents to their basements.
A tornado watch remains in effect until 10 p.m., and a flash flood warning expires at 9:45 p.m.
Emergency personnel are responding to numerous reports of damage throughout the region, including flooding on Northern Boulevard in South Abington Twp., and reports of lightning strikes causing fires in the Midvalley.
The Scranton School Board work session for tonight was cancelled. People already at the Administration Building, including district employees, waited out the storm in the century-old basement, once used as a fallout shelter.
