AP sources: Colorado fires MacIntyre, Miles finalizes deal with Kansas...Condoleezza Rice for Browns coach?

UNDATED (AP) — A person familiar with the decision says Colorado has fired coach Mike MacIntyre after the team lost six straight games in his sixth season at the school. MacIntyre was voted AP college football coach of the year in 2016 after he led the Buffaloes to a Pac-12 South title and 10 victories. That was his only winning season at Colorado, going 20-40 and 6-38 in the Pac-12 in the other five. Colorado started this season with five straight victories and moved into the AP Top 25, but haven’t won since.

UNDATED (AP) — Les Miles is headed back to the Big 12 to take on a massive rebuilding job at Kansas. A person familiar with the decision tells The Associated Press the deal was finalized shortly before Miles arrived at the airport in Topeka this morning. Miles was considered the front-runner for the Jayhawks’ job from the moment David Beaty was told he would not be retained two weeks ago.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey says the team has not discussed former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as a candidate for its coaching vacancy. ESPN had reported that the team would like to interview Rice for its coaching job. Rice is an avid Browns fan and has visited the team’s headquarters on numerous occasions in recent years. The Browns fired Hue Jackson last month after he won just three games in two-plus seasons.

UNDATED (AP) — No. 18 Michigan is playing Providence this afternoon for the championship of the Air Force Reserve Tip-Off Tournament. Tonight, No. 16 Virginia Tech will take on No. 23 Purdue for the championship at the Charleston Classic. In other Top 25 action today, No. 10 Kentucky plays VMI, No. 11 Michigan State faces Tennessee Tech and No. 12 Kansas State takes on Pennsylvania in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

LONDON (AP) — Mike Bryan and Jack Sock have won their first ATP Finals doubles title together. The American pair saved a match point in the deciding tiebreaker to beat the French team of Pierre-Hughes Herbert and Nicolas Mahut 5-7, 6-1, 13-11. Bryan has now won the season-ending tournament five times. He won four times with his usual partner and brother Bob, who has been out with an injured hip since May.
