EU Gives Antitrust OK to Ford
BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) _ The European Union Commission said Friday it has given antitrust clearance to Ford Motor Co.’s plan to take control of wholesale distribution of its Mazda brands of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Britain from the MCL Group LTD.
``The acquisition of the business will be carried out by the Ford-controlled Japanese company, Mazda Motor Corp. and will be essentially mean Ford’s vertical integration of the wholesale Mazda brands of vehicles and related spare parts in and accessories″ in Britain, the Commission said in a statement.
The Commission said the move was in line with Ford’s practice of having the wholesale distribution of its cars through companies it either owns or controls.
The move is part of a trend by auto manufacturers to integrate the wholesale distribution of their vehicles into their companies, the Commission added.
