NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Two people have died and five others, including four firefighters, were injured in an early morning fire in Connecticut.

New Haven Assistant Fire Chief Orlando Marcano says the blaze in a three-family building was reported at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

He says firefighters rescued two people from the third floor but they were both pronounced dead at the hospital. Another resident was injured leaping from the building while two other people who leapt from the windows were not hurt. Four firefighters suffered minor injuries including back pain, elevated blood pressure and smoke inhalation.

No names were released.

Marcano says 16 people lived in the building and they are being helped by the Red Cross.

The cause remains under investigation.
