Hesperia man still at large after escaping police
A 30-year-old Hesperia man is still at large as of 10:30 a.m. Monday after escaping from police while being treated at the Shelby Lakeshore Hospital, according to the Shelby Police Department.
Shayne Chris Smith was originally charged for multiple outstanding warrants.
According to an announcement from the Shelby Police Department Facebook page, Smith escaped around 8:30 p.m. Sunday and is described as being 5-feet, six-inches tall, weighing 170 pounds and is a white male with long hair and a beard. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, gray jogging shorts and no shoes or socks. He is believed to still be handcuffed.
Another update from the Facebook page at 5:15 a.m. Monday said that the search has been hindered because of weather conditions, but full efforts are still underway to capture Smith.
Shelby Police Chief Ryan Furman said he believes that Smith is headed back to his home in Hesperia and has no friends or family in the area.
Anyone with information is asked to not approach Smith and to contact the Shelby or Hesperia police departments or call 911.
