TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ The front-runner and the long shot qualified for the governor's race at the same time Tuesday.

George P. Bush filed papers at the state Division of Elections for his father, Republican Gov. Jeb Bush, while state Sen. Daryl Jones stood behind him waiting to file his papers.

The two shook hands and exchanged pleasant greetings as a crowd of reporters closed around them.

Polls show Bush well ahead of any of the Democratic candidates hoping to challenge him. Polls also show Jones trails far behind former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno and Tampa attorney Bill McBride in the bid for the Democratic nomination. The Democratic primary is Sept. 10.

The governor was in England on a trade mission Tuesday.
