Police release name of man shot and killed by police
DANBURY, Conn. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of the man shot and killed by police outside a senior housing complex in Connecticut last week.
State police on Thursday say 45-year-old Paul Arbitelle was wielding a knife when he was shot last Saturday at the Glen senior apartments in Danbury.
Officers responding to reports of a suspicious man at about 9:30 p.m. confronted Arbitelle. One officer deployed a stun gun that was ineffective, and another officer fired several shots when Arbitelle charged.
Arbitelle’s mother, a tenant at the complex, was also injured.
State police are investigating to determine whether the gunfire was justified.
According to the News-Times of Danbury, Arbitelle spent time in jail for a racially motivated attack on a black man in 2011 and has swastika and “white power” tattoos.
