UPDATED: Two semis collide on Highway 33 east of Horicon
TOWN OF HUBBARD – Dense fog may have caused two semis to collide on Highway 33 Thursday morning, injuring one of the drivers.
According to a press release from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, Alajandro Alfaro, 31, Elgin, Illinois, was driving a 1999 Peterbilt north on County Highway TW at 9:40 a.m. Alfaro failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 33 and struck a 2016 Freightliner being driven east on Highway 33 by Royce Shultis, 58, Reedsburg.
Road blockage caused both lanes of Highway 33 to be shut down until the debris could be cleared. The road was reopened by 1:30 p.m.
Alfaro was transported to Beaver Dam Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Heavy fog is believed to be a factor in the crash, the sheriff’s office said.
The crash remains under investigation.
Assisting at the scene were Horicon Fire Department and Horicon EMS, Mayville Police Department, Horicon Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, DCERT and the Dodge County Highway Department.
