Fitchburg Duo Allegedly Assaulted Pregnant Woman

July 29, 2018

FITCHBURG -- For allegedly punching a visibly pregnant homeless woman in her stomach during an assault on Thursday, a 20-year man and 16-year-old juvenile were arrested for felony assault and battery, police said.

Michael J. Guillemette Jr., 20, of 34 Pleasant St., Fitchburg was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on July 30 during his arraignment on the single charge in District Court Thursday, according to court documents.

The status of the 16-year-old boy was not available because the outcome of his arreste will be determined by the Juvenile Court.

Police said the 32-year-old victim went to police headquarters at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday to report the assault.

She told police Guillemette and the teenager were upset because she was leaving the apartment where the teenager stayed with his mother.

The victim said she stayed with the teen and his mother occasionally when she needed somewhere to live. The victim told police she had found another apartment.

The pair, allegedly upset, approached the woman and took turns pulling her hair, head-butting her, and punching her in the face and stomach, the victim told police.

Police indicated the victim had injuries consistent with what she reported and one officer said he had seen the victim approximately an hour before the alleged assault and she had no visible injuries.

The officer also reported the victim was “noticeably pregnant.”

The victim told police she needed to be taken to the hospital because she had symptoms the punches to her stomach may have injured the baby.

When officers went to the location of the alleged assault to question Guillemette and the teenager, the pair denied the assault, said they were attempting to help her leave the apartment and knew she was pregnant, said police.

Police also spoke with Guillemette’s girlfriend who told them the pair had not assaulted the victim.

Guillemette and the teenager were arrested without incident, police said.

The condition of the victim and her unborn child was not available.
