Giannis Anastasiou appointed Panathinaikos coach
ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Panthainaikos has appointed former Ajax striker Giannis Anastasiou as its new coach following a disappointing season in which the Athens club finished sixth in the 16-team Greek league.
The 40-year-old former Greek international was presented by the club’s management on Tuesday, though details of his agreement with Panathinaikos have not been announced.
Panathinaikos finished with 40 points from 30 league matches — 37 adrift of champion and main rival Olympiakos.
Former Greek internationals Dimitris Saravakos and Nikos Dabizas were appointed as assistants for Anastasiou, who is the fifth coach the club has had since a fan ownership scheme was introduced last year.
