MEDLEY, Fla. (AP) _ A truck trailer loaded with almost a ton of hazardous cleaning chemicals was stolen from a fenced lot and was still missing Saturday, police said.

Authorities issued a nationwide alert warning officers of potential health risks if they locate the trailer. The concentrated cleaning solvents are highly caustic and toxic substances, said police Detective Jeanette Said.

The trailer and attached cab were stolen from a fenced loading lot and the lock on a gate had been cut, police said. The cab was later found off the Florida Turnpike south of Miami.

The chemicals aren’t flammable and don’t pose an inhalation risk, but they can cause serious burns if they contact skin, said Miami-Dade fire spokesman Jeff Hackman.

Medley is in northwestern Miami-Dade County.
