To get Baytown VFW post back on its feet, it takes a community
Memorial Day signifies different things: A time to honor those who have sacrificed their lives so that Americans can enjoy freedom. The unofficial kickoff of summer. The Indianapolis 500.
In Baytown, members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 912 will observe Memorial Day with a service at Baytown’s Bicentennial Park. But, as with other veterans groups, acknowledging and helping those who have served in the armed forces is a year-round endeavor.
“Our primary mission is to support veterans and their families in time of need — whether it’s giving money for gas or paying a month’s rent or helping take people to the VA hospital,” said Harold Sams, the Baytown post’s commander.
