Distracted driver slams into state police cruiser

September 19, 2018

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island State Police say a distracted driver crashed into a parked police cruiser at an emergency scene.

The crash happened on Route 6 in Providence late Tuesday. Damage to the cruiser was minimal, and a trooper in the car was not hurt. The cruiser’s emergency lights were flashing at the time.

Police say the 52-year-old driver was disoriented by the flashing lights of multiple cruisers and didn’t stop in time to avoid hitting the parked cruiser. The driver has been cited for the crash and ticketed.

State police say drivers should keep their eyes focused on the road ahead when they see emergency lights.
